Sunshine vitamin prevents asthma by controlling chemical processes in our body

Vitamin D can do much more for you than just protect your bones; the sunshine vitamin has been linked to protection against heart disease, cancer, diabetes, viral infections, Alzheimer's disease and multiple sclerosis just to name a few.
Suffer from asthma? Yes, vitamin D can also help keep your symptoms under control!
Your vitamin D levels determine asthma severity
According to a new study, the lower your vitamin D levels are, the worse your asthma symptoms will tend to be. People with low levels of vitamin D have more airway reactivity - the way in which the airways react to allergens. In simpler terms, people with asthma have sensitive airways that constrict when exposed to allergens. Insufficient levels of vitamin D is also associated with decreased lung function and worse asthma control, which increases the need for steroid inhalers.
Vitamin D works at a biochemical level
So how exactly does vitamin D improve asthma symptoms? Well, researchers have found that the vitamin is able to block proteins in the lungs that cause the inflammation associated with asthma. But that is not all vitamin D does; it also increases the production of an anti-inflammatory protein (interleukin-10), which combats asthma symptoms.
