Regular consumption of soy products could lower your sperm count

Consuming soy regularly lowers sperm count by 25%

In a new animal study, regular and long-term consumption of a high soy diet resulted in a 25% lowered sperm count. This includes soya beans and any soy-based products (soy milk, tofu etc.). This study is backed by a 2006 human study that discovered soy compounds also damaged sperm.

Is soy healthy?

There has been much debate about whether soy is healthy or not. We will not go into details here or give a clear-cut answer as some scientific studies are still conflicting. It is the combination of, rather than individual, ingredients in soy that could make it unhealthy. For this reason we recommend not to consume soy and soy-based products regularly or over long periods of time. This is especially true for men, according the the above studies.

Dr. Bo Nielsen's comments:

I have warned against taking supplements containing soy for many years. Unfortunately, some studies indicate that soy products may have a negative health effect on both men and women living in this part of the world. This study indicates that men may experience a lower sperm count if they consume a diet high in soy products. This may not increase the risk of a health problem, but may lower the fertility of the male. until further notice, I do not recommend anyone in this part of the world to consume a diet high in soy.
