Keep your mind sharp with grapes

Added 07.04.2010

Daily supplementation with grape concentrate improves brain function in older adults

A recent randomised, placebo-controlled, double-blind trial has found daily supplementation with grape juice helps boost memory and mental function in older adults. Specifically, verbal learning and verbal and spatial memory improved in participants taking daily supplements of grape juice.

Grapes are packed with antioxidant polyphenols, such as resveratrol, which help to counteract the effects of free radicals and oxidative stress. Free radicals and oxidative stress are harmful to us, speed up aging and play a large role in the development of many chronic diseases including heart disease and cancer.

Grape seed extract is a rich source of resveratrol and other polyphenols

In order to get health benefits from grapes, we would have to eat a large quantity of them or drink litres of grape juice. Furthermore, resveratrol, and most other antioxidant nutrients, are most concentrated in the seeds and peel of the grape. One of the best ways to ensure you are consuming enough antioxidants from grapes is to take a high quality grape seed extract supplement which preferably has extra resveratrol.

Doctor's Natural Grapavin grape seed extract supplement contains extra resveratrol for optimal mental function and overall health and well-being.

Dr. Bo Nielsen's comments:

Taking grape seed extract supplements seems to be one of the best investments you can do for your future health. The ingredients in grape seed extract have in scientific studies proven to have an antioxidant capacity which is 20 times more powerful than vitamin E, and 50 times greater than vitamin C. Grape seed extract has proven overall to have anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, anti-cancerous, anti-microbial, anti-arthritic and anti-allergic activities.

Among the most evident effects of grape seed extract are: scavenging toxins so the organs can get rid of them; and bonding with collagen - the most abundant protein in the body and a key component of skin, gums, bones, teeth, hair and body tissues. The bonding promotes cell health and skin elasticity, making it seem more youthful, in a process that works almost like a natural face-lift and even helps protect the body from sun damage, which can also cause premature aging of the skin.

Grape seed extract also improves your vision, the flexibility of your joints, the health of your arteries, strengthens capillaries and veins to improve your circulatory system, delays the oxidation of low density lipoproteins - the fats that are responsible for "bad cholesterol." Grape seed also prevents many types of cancer, spreading of metastasis and has life-prolonging effects also by inhibiting the breakdown of telomeres responsible for cell death. One of the most relevant effects of grape seed extract at this time of the year is that it is very effective in preventing hay fever (pollen allergy), but do remember that the dosage must be individualised to adapt to each individual's specific needs (ask a experienced health professional).
