Keep your heart healthy with omega-3 fish oil

What is omega-3 fish oil?

Omega-3 fish oil consists of essential long-chain unsaturated fatty acids (good fat) that are extracted (refined and stripped of heavy metals and toxins) from oily cold water fish, such as salmon, trout, tuna, mackerel and sardines. Omega-3 fatty acids play a vital role in thousands of biochemical processes in our body. Two of the most important fatty acids in omega-3 are eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

Omega-3 fish oil is notorious for good health, such as improving mental health, protecting against certain types of cancer, improving mood and behaviour, supporting good vision, reducing inflammation and protecting the heart.

Scientific studies gathered from the past 30 years are showing undeniable evidence that omega-3 fish oil can protect our hearts. This may have a huge impact given that cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one killer in the UK and is responsible for around 200,000 deaths a year.

How much omega-3 fish oil should we take?
