Dr. Bo Nielsen's comments:
The results of this study ought to revolutionise the future treatment of ulcerative colitis. Why should this study change the way we treat people suffering from ulcerative colitis? First of all, none of the traditional pharmaceutical drugs used to treat ulcerative colitis are very effective, but they all have very unpleasant side effects. Resveratrol in the dosages used in this study has NO side effects. But resveratrol not only treats ulcerative colitis effectively, but seems even to reduce the risk of dying from the disease: in the placebo group 40% of the ulcerative colitis animals that did NOT receive resveratrol died. None of the resveratrol treated animals died.
The only "but" regarding this study is that it is an animal study that has not yet been conducted in humans. Unfortunately, this study or even human studies that show the same results will NOT change the way traditional doctors treat their patients as we are talking about a natural nutritional supplement - not a pharmaceutical drug promoted by the pharmaceutical industry. That is just the way the Health Care System works in 2010. But if you know anybody suffering from ulcerative colitis, I suggest that you tell them about these results. Taking a supplement with grape seed extract containing extra resveratrol may result in a "miracle" for people suffering from ulcerative colitis.
