Aggressive behaviour reduced by 34 percent with vitamins, minerals and omega-3

Added 05.03.2010

Vitamins and minerals beneficial beyond physical health

That vitamins and minerals are vital to our physical health and prevent us from developing chronic disease, is now universally accepted. Many studies have even told us that these nutrients plus essential fatty acids like omega-3 are good for our brains and mood. It should come as no surprise, therefore, that studies are finding that nutrients are vital for sound mental and psychological health as well.

Two randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies from 2002 and 2010 have found vitamins, minerals and omega-3 fatty acids reduce aggressive behaviour in young adult offenders by 39 and 24% respectively.

All the more reason to start kids early on vitamins and minerals!

Dr. Bo Nielsen's comments:

Could aggression and violence be reduced simply by taking supplements with sufficient amounts of vitamins, minerals and fish oil? Yes, most likely. This is the third study that proves a connection between aggressive behaviour and insufficient intake of vitamins, minerals and fish oil. A previous British study proves that serious violent behaviour among juvenile violent criminals can be reduced by 40% simply by offering these youngsters basic nutritional supplements. The depressing fact is that nothing has happened since the publication of these previous studies. Nobody seems to be advising mothers with hyperactive and aggressive children to supplement their children with basic nutrients, which according to my personal experience are most often very effective at improving these unhappy childrens' behaviour. Nobody has introduced supplements as a standard procedure to criminals in prisons etc. Nobody seems to care about the fact that several studies have shown that aggressive behaviour in many cases is caused by a deficiency in basic vitamins and minerals.
